Insight Summer Enrichment Program Generates Interest in Medical Careers

Published on Tuesday, July 6, 2021

The UMMC Insight Summer Enrichment Program is a three-week, intensive learning experience comprised of lectures, simulations, real-world skills workshops, and hands-on activities organized and operated by UMMC's department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior. The program is open to JPS and Holmes County high school students aged 16-18 who are interested in a medical career and who belong to one or more medically-underrepresented racial or ethnic group. The aim of our program is to educate participants on the steps and strategies necessary to become a physician and to reinforce their interest in medicine by providing an inside-look at daily life for various medical specialties.

Led by psychiatry residents Drs. Joshua Trull and Perry Morgan, the program will be kicking off on July 12th, 2021! Week one includes experiences with clinical anatomy, pathology, the physical examination, and radiology.

This year’s program will wrap up on July 30th. At that time, we are looking forward to recruiting new team members to participate in planning for next year’s program!
